OS 3.0: Close Safari’s last tab to clear all pages

SafariCloseLastTab

iPhone OS 3.0 allows you to close the only open tab. This is useful for quickly clearing a bunch of open tabs in order to start fresh with a blank page.

  1. Note this has a useful side effect… if you close all the pages in Safari, leaving only the blank one that it automatically creates for you when you close the last page, and then exit Safari by pressing the Home button, the MobileSafari process will actually quit, rather than hanging around in the background. This will often free up tens of megabytes of RAM, which is very useful on the 128MB iPhones (i.e. the original one and the iPhone 3G).
